Frequently asked questions
The things you might be wondering, before we begin.
What is narrative pastoral counselling?
It’s a gentle way of talking where we look together at the story you believe about yourself. The core idea is simple: you are not the problem, the problem is the problem. It is narrative, because we retell the story together, and pastoral, because it is grounded in faith, compassion and respect for you as a person.
Is it online? How does it work?
Yes. We work online on Google Meet, a secure video platform, so you can take part from your own home, wherever you are in South Africa. All you need is a quiet corner and an internet connection. In person in Naboomspruit is also possible if you prefer.
How long is a session and what does it cost?
A session lasts 80 to 90 minutes, a little longer by design so that we never have to rush. One session costs R650. You can also take a bundle: 5 sessions for R3 000 (you save 7%) or 10 sessions for R5 500 (you save 15%). This is private pay, without medical aid.
How do I begin if I’m still unsure?
Begin with the free intro call. Send me a WhatsApp and we’ll set up a short call, by voice or video, whichever you prefer. It lasts about 15 minutes, and you’re not committed to anything.
Do I need to know what to say?
No. You don’t need the right words, and you don’t need to have anything figured out beforehand. We simply begin where you are.
Is it private?
Yes. What you share with me stays between us, within the usual professional limits. And because we work online, no one needs to see you at a consulting room.
Do we speak Afrikaans?
Yes, Afrikaans is the language of this work. If you’d rather speak English, we can do that too.
Is it religious?
There is a gentle, warm pastoral foundation, but I never push it on you. You are welcome just as you are, whether your path runs through faith, doubt or silence. Faith only comes in where you want it.
What if I’m in a crisis?
If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, please get help right away. This counselling is not intended for emergencies. Call SADAG’s Suicide Crisis Helpline on 0800 567 567 (24h), send a WhatsApp to SADAG on 076 882 2775, or call emergency services on 112 from a cellphone.
